Athletics Australia’s Board of Directors has today confirmed their personal and combined commitment to marriage equality, advocating for a ‘YES’ vote in the postal plebiscite currently underway.

“The Athletics Australia Board of Directors are proud to confirm our commitment to marriage equality and our unanimous support for the ‘YES’ vote in the postal plebiscite,” Mark Arbib, Athletics Australia President, said.

“Athletics is a sport for all Australians and we are already a committed member of Pride in Sport, a program specifically designed to assist with the inclusion of LGBTIQ community in sport."

“While the plebiscite is a matter for every individual to consider on a personal basis, the Athletics Australia Board of Directors believes it is vital to show leadership here and we are encouraging members of athletics to support equality for our LGBTIQ athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, staff and fans that make up the athletics community."

The Marriage Equality Postal Plebiscite will see voting forms sent to the homes of all registered Australians aged over 18 from 12 September 2017. You must submit your vote by 27 October.
