Published Tue 25 Jan 2022

Athletics Australia is thrilled to announce a 12-month partnership with powerhouse pharmacy retailer Chemist Warehouse, kicking off this month.

The first year of the partnership will see Chemist Warehouse connect with Australian athletes from grassroots level right through to elite competitors as the naming rights partner to a series of events and competitions around the country, in addition to providing support to officials and volunteers in 2022.

Chemist Warehouse will be the premier and naming rights partner of Athletics Australia’s Australian Summer of Athletics season, commencing with Zatopek:10, the Australian 10,000m Championships on Wednesday 26th January, and will team up with partners to deliver athlete and fan engagement activities at all five major events listed on the athletics calendar.

Chemist Warehouse will support the coaches, officials and volunteers at the events by providing a designated area/room where they can rest and re-cooperate between events. They will also provide product sampling to cater to the needs of the team out on the front line whether it be sun, rain, hail or shine.

A highlight event on the yearly calendar is the Australian Track & Field Championships featuring 3,000 plus junior, open and elite athletes competing across eight days of competition, plus the iconic Track Classic series which entails three high performance meets in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The partnership will also extend to the Australian Winter season and will also support the next generation of athletes competing at the 2022 Australian All Schools Championships, with Chemist Warehouse on board as the naming rights partner.

In addition, Chemist Warehouse will be the presenting partner of the Athletics Community Hero Awards, an award designed to bring the unsung heroes of Athletics into the spotlight. The award provides a platform to celebrate those in the athletics community who often work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure athletics in Australia is a huge success.

“As the House of Wellness, Chemist Warehouse is passionate about health and sport and we are thrilled to team up with Athletics Australia. We are committed to working together to grow Athletics across the country and highlight the extreme skill of competitors in this arena,” Chemist Warehouse Director, Mario Tascone.

Athletics Australia CEO Peter Bromley said the partnership with Chemist Warehouse will go a long way in strengthening the sport in what is set to be a milestone year for Australian athletics.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chemist Warehouse to the Athletics Australia team and we are grateful for the support as we begin our domestic season,” Bromley said.

“This week marks the start of our Summer season with the Chemist Warehouse Zatopek:10, and our athletes are training extremely hard to become Australian champions, with the aim to be competitive on the world stage at the many major championships taking place international this year.

“To have a partner such as Chemist Warehouse, one that so many Australians can connect with is, a great step forward for our sport, and we have no doubt that this will be a huge boost to ultimately grow our sport and our events in Australia.”
