Home | news | Athletics Australia stands in solidarity with Ukraine

Athletics Australia condemns the Russian military aggression of Ukraine and expresses its unwavering support of Ukrainians and their freedom.

In line with World Athletics, Athletics Australia will ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from Australian domestic competition for the foreseeable future in order to send a clear message on its stance.

Athletics Australia President Jan Swinhoe said:

“Athletics Australia stands together as a community in support of the Ukrainian people.

“We welcome and support the position adopted by the IOC and World Athletics to exclude Russian and Belarusian athletes from international sporting competition, and we urge other organisations to stand up for peace.

“Our thoughts are with Australian Ukrainian families, many of whom are part of our large, multicultural and diverse athletics community, and our hearts are, of course, with their entire nation.”
