The World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen concluded with a very competitive and fast men’s and women’s half marathon.

In the men’s half marathon, Edward Marks (VIC, self-coached) was the best placed Australian coming in 38th with a time of 1:01.50.

In his first run as the Australian marathon record holder, Haftu Strintzos (VIC, Adam Didyk) finished 51st with a time of 1:02.33, while Liam Boudin (QLD, Collis Birmingham) finished 70th with a time of 1:04.22.

Victorian Jack Rayner pulled out of the race after a fall saw him injure his back and glute muscle, and he didn’t recover in time to race.

In the women’s race, Rebecca Lowe (NSW, Gary Howard) ran a PB to be the best placed Australian, finishing 51st with a time of 1;11.58.

Ruby Smee (TAS, self-coached) came in 66th with a time of 1:13.31, and Donve Viljoen (VIC, Steve Dinneen) finished 68th with a time of 1:13.43.

The men’s race was won by Swedish star Andreas Almgren 58.06, while in the women’s race, Kenyan Agnes Jebet Ngetich won the title and broke the world record with a time of 1:05.15.

The World Athletics Road Running Championships is the last major international competition of 2026, marking a hugely successful year for Australian athletes across the board.
