Commonwealth Games Women’s 4x100m Relay Update

In light of news about a provisional suspension within the Nigerian athletics team, Athletics Australia would like to clarify what this means for the Australian Women’s 4x100m Relay Team that competed at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

At this stage, it is understood that an athlete has been provisionally suspended following a doping infraction within the team, however a B sample is yet to be tested.

In the event that the athlete is found guilty, Nigeria will be stripped of their gold medal. This would mean that Australia would likely be upgraded to the bronze medal.

Athletics Australia will work with CGA and World Athletics to understand the full process and will release information in due course.
