Season’s Greetings from Athletics Australia

Home | news | Season’s Greetings from Athletics Australia

It has been an outstanding year for Athletics in Australia.

From the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, to the 2016 Australian Athletics Championships, it has been a year that remarkably highlights all that makes our sport and physical activity for life, athletics, the best and most accessible in the world.

Together, we can look back on 2016 with great pride.

Our athletes and coaches have inspired millions of Australians with their amazing achievements on the world stage, while thousands more have achieved their own personal best as they walk, run, jump, roll and throw in their own way.

As we look ahead with anticipation to 2017, there is much to be excited about.

The #SUMMERofATHS, Nitro Athletics Melbourne, the Australian Athletics Championships, the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships and the 2017 IAAF World Championships will once again provide a platform for athletics to flourish domestically and on the world stage.

If we continue to work together, in the spirit of encouragement, I am confident that our great sport will continue to grow and prosper as the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and Tokyo 2020 fast approach.

To the Australian athletics community, of which we are all members, thank you for sharing the experience of 2016 with us.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Athletics Australia President

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land upon which we run, jump, throw, walk and roll. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and acknowledge the significant contribution that First Nations people have and continue to make to athletics in Australia.
