Athletics Australia acknowledges the decision by World Para Athletics to cancel the Kobe 2022 World Para Athletics Championships scheduled for September 2022.

The announcement was made last week by World Para Athletics in light of the foreseeable restrictions associated with its delivery in Japan.

Athletics Australia CEO Peter Bromley said:

“While it is incredibly disappointing another major championships has been cancelled, Athletics Australia is supportive of the decision in the best interest of fair and quality competition.

“We acknowledge that this decision will impact the plans of our high performance para athletes who have had considerably less international competition opportunities since the pandemic began, and we want to affirm our commitment to our athletes as they process today’s confirmation.”

Athletics Australia will work with athletes who were targeting the Kobe 2022 World Para Athletics Championships to  identify potential alternative competition opportunities in light of this announcement.
