Statement regarding the 2022 World Para Athletics Championships

Home | news | Statement regarding the 2022 World Para Athletics Championships

Athletics Australia acknowledges the information presented by World Para Athletics over the past week, indicating the potential postponement of the 2022 World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan.

World Para Athletics advised that the Local Organising Committee for the 2022 World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan have officially requested for a further postponement in light of the development of the pandemic.

We understand this would be disappointing for athletes who were working towards the Kobe World Championships and given the lack of international competition available to Australian Para-athletes over the past two years.

In the event that a replacement event is not made available should the Championships be postponed, AA will endeavour to identify alternate competition opportunities that will best support athlete preparation for 2023, Paris 2024 and beyond.

More information will be posted here, when it is made available.
