Australia have come away from the IAAF World Relays with two Doha World Athletics Championship qualifying teams – the Women’s 4x100m and the Men’s 4×400.

The second and final day of competition saw three Australian teams compete:

1. 

The men’s 4x400m Australian Team finished in seventh place in 3.05.59 and with that the team has qualified for the Doha World Athletics Championships.

  • Alex Beck – 46.6
  • Tyler Gunn – 45.5
  • Murray Goodwin – 47.0
  • Steve Solomon – 46.49

2. 

The women’s 4x100m finished in sixth with their run of 44.62. The team is confirmed for the Doha World Athletics Championships.

Tonight’s team was: Sally Pearson, Nana Owusu-Afriyie, Riley Day & Naa Anang.

Maddie Coates was a late out with a sore hamstring after her stellar performance in the heat last night, she was replaced by Nana Owusu-Afriyie.

The performance equals the highest place by an Australian senior women's 4x100m team at a global meet (worlds or Olympics) for 27 years – since 1992 Olympics.

3. 

The Women’s 4x400m team finished the B-Final in 5th in a time of 3.32.22.

  • Ellie Beer – 53.1
  • Morgan Mitchell – 53.3
  • Caitlin Sargent-Jones – 52.8
  • Lauren Wells – 53.02

The team still as the opportunity to qualify for the Doha World Athletics Championships and will attempt to do so at the Oceania Athletics Championships (June 25 – 28) in Townsville.

 

The United States of America won overall, Australia finished in 12th place.

The next major competition for Australia is the Oceania Athletics Championships (June 25 – 28) in Townsville, Queensland.
