World champion and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Kelsey-Lee Barber has been given the all clear to compete at the Commonwealth Games after her latest COVID test.

Following her World Championship victory last month in Oregon, USA, Barber will aim to add another medal to her collection in the Women’s Javelin final on Sunday, August 7.

Commonwealth Games Australia and Athletics Australia can also confirm two withdrawals and two additions to the Birmingham team.

Reigning champion Kathryn Mitchell (javelin) and middle distance runner Stewart McSweyn (1500m) have both withdrawn from competition due to illness. Mitchell acquired an unknown virus in transit from the USA, while McSweyn is recovering from influenza and both have not been able to travel to Birmingham.

Decathlete Alec Diamond and sprinter Mia Gross are both set to make their Commonwealth Games debut, with Diamond replacing Ash Moloney who withdrew due to injury, while Gross takes the place of Riley Day in the Women’s 4x100m relay squad.
