Australian Athletics is delighted to announce the appointment of Vanessa Low to its Board of Directors, following today’s Annual General Meeting.

One of Australia’s and the world’s most accomplished Para-athletes, Low has enjoyed an outstanding career on the international stage, winning three Paralympic gold medals and four World Para Athletics Championship titles in the T61 long jump.

A respected leader both on and off the field, Low brings a wealth of experience and a unique athlete perspective to the Board as Australian Athletics looks to build on the great position the sport is in.

Low said it was a real privilege to join the Board.

“I’m honoured to join the Australian Athletics Board,” Low said.

“Athletics has given me so much over 17 years, and I want to help make sure the sport gives every athlete, at every level, the same opportunities it gave me.

“This is a huge moment for athletics in Australia.

“With unification, a new broadcast partnership and a home Games in Brisbane 2032 on the horizon, we have a real chance to grow the sport from the grassroots up.

“I can’t wait to play my part.”

Australian Athletics President Jane Flemming welcomed Low’s appointment, saying her leadership, experience and perspective would be invaluable as the organisation works to grow the sport and strengthen opportunities for athletes at every level.

As such an accomplished athlete, who is still competing, Flemming said Low will be a huge asset to the organisation’s Board.

“Vanessa is one of our most dedicated Para-athletes, and a remarkable woman on so many fronts,” Flemming said.

“She is a leader in what she does and will bring a unique perspective to the Australian Athletics Board as we head into what will be an important and exciting few years ahead.

“I, and the rest of the Board, look forward to welcoming and working closely with Vanessa as we continue to grow the sport.”

Low’s appointment comes at an important time for Australian Athletics, with opportunities to strengthen participation, build the sport’s profile and inspire the next generation of athletes in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.

Off the track Low is a member of the World Para Athletics Athlete Committee, and a TrackSAFE Foundation Ambassador, using her own story to educate the public on the critical risks associated with trains and light rail systems.

Away from competition, Low is based in Canberra with her husband, fellow para-athlete Scott Reardon, and their four-year-old son, Matteo.
