Media are now invited to apply for accreditation to cover the 2024 edition of the Maurie Plant Meet - Melbourne on Thursday, February 15 at Lakeside Stadium.

The Maurie Plant Meet - Melbourne is Oceania's one and only World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Level meet, with the inaugural edition drawing in a crowd of 6000.

After the success of the first iteration, the meet is back bigger and better with world class athletes going head-to-head as they battle for Olympic qualifiers and world ranking points. So far Athletics Australia has announced headliners including:

  • 2022 world champion Jake Wightman, who will take on Australian Olympic finalists Peter Bol and Stewart McSweyn
  • 2023 Diamond League winner and Australian discus record holder Matthew Denny
  • More announcements to come in the following weeks

Media are required to apply for accreditation by February 4, and will be contacted in the following days. More information below about media accreditation for working media, photographers and content creators.

Location: Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park

Any enquiries can be directed to Athletics Australia's Head of Media and Communications Sascha Ryner at sascha.ryner@athletics.org.au

Photographers and Content creators:

Media accreditation does not automatically grant the right to field of play (FOP) access. Athletics Australia will hold a photographer and content creator’s briefing at 5.30pm on Thursday, 15 February where photographers will be issued their media bibs for the meet.

Due to the popularity of the meet, it will be at Athletics Australia's discretion which photographers will receive FOP access, with traditional media outlets and stakeholders as the priority.

Content creators will NOT be permitted to film Field of Play content due to the broadcast agreement with World Athletics.

Photographers must not produce or use any kind of moving images to sell, lend or otherwise grant any rights in relation to any content produced, to third-party publications or commercial entities. If you are engaged as a contributor to any third-party outlets or entities, you must arrange for those third parties to agree to use the images (moving or still) for editorial purposes only and they must not be passed on to other brands or entities.

While independent content creators with commercial affiliations are not accredited by default, those accredited by our partners, such as PUMA or Chemist Warehouse, serve as notable exceptions.

Further Terms and Conditions will be distributed to accredited photographers and content creators on the acceptance of their accreditation. Any breach of these Terms and Conditions will result in accreditation being cancelled immediately, for that meet and any subsequent meets held by Athletics Australia.
