Biography

Aged 16, Taryn Gollshewsky first wore the green and gold at the 2009 World Youth Championships, placing 12th. One year on, she was off to the 2010 World Junior Championships where she competed in the qualifying rounds. She had thrown a tremendous PB of 53.69m in the lead-up to the championships.
At the Australian Junior Athletics Championships in 2012, she was locked in a four-way for the two places on the Australian team for the 2012 World Junior Championships. Unfortunately, she placed third and missed selection.

Taryn rebounded in 2013 with a PB 54.79m, ahead of a breakthrough 2014 campaign. During the domestic season, she destroyed her PB, with 55.09m in Adelaide, then 56.74m in Brisbane in March, closing the year as the second Australian at the Nationals. Selected for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Taryn nailed a PB of 58.24m in the qualifying round, finishing ninth in the final.

In 2015, Taryn improved her consistency of throws with 53m her lowest throw. But 2016 was another breakthrough season, raising her PB on four occasions reaching 60.27m. Taryn became just the sixth Australian to throw over 60m and only the second for the last 14 years, along with Dani Stevens.

In 2017 her consistency continued with three throws over 59 metres with a best of 59.94m. Although she remained short of the 2017 World Championships qualifying standard, in late July she received an IAAF ‘roll down’ position for London 2017. She was also selected for the 2017 World University Games. In London, she managed 54.29m in the qualifying rounds. On to Taipei for the World Unis later that month, she rebounded with a throw of 58.11m winning the bronze medal.

At her second Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018, Taryn placed fifth.  In 2019, she won her first National, then in 2021, she raised her PB to 61.05m. In 2022 she won her second National title and add the Oceania title in June.

Selected for her third Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Taryn continued to progress after 9th in 2014, then 5th in 2018, to place 4th in Birmingham with a throw of 56.85m – just 14cm from the podium.

In 2023 she won her third National title and with sufficient World Athletics rankings points was selected for her second world championships – Budapest 2023. In her ninth competition in the green and gold, Taryn placed 20th overall in the discus qualifying rounds with her best throw in international competition - 58.63m.
