About: Superstars of Australian athletics will take on the world’s best in a high-profile track and field meet on home soil, with the Melbourne Track Classic upgraded and reimagined as the Maurie Plant Meet - Melbourne. To be held at Lakeside Stadium on Thursday, February 23 as part of the Chemist Warehouse Summer Series and now as a part of the World Continental Tour Gold Series, the Meet will feature some stars of global athletics including the fastest man in the world, USA’s Fred Kerley up against Australia's best athletes in an unmissable night of athletics action .

Entertainment: Lots of action off the track too with an autograph tent, food trucks, Four Pillars Gin Tents, and other fun stuff!

Event Updates: The fastest man in the world Fredrick Lee Kerley is coming to Lakeside Stadium on February 23.  The reigning 100m world champion and Tokyo Olympic silver medallist from the United States will headline a host of international stars at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet - READ MORE 

The Maurie Plant Meet has also lured Olympic 1500m champion Matthew Centrowitz Jnr down under from the United States. Centrowitz will join fellow USA team member and the fastest man in the world Fred Kerley, as they take on Australia's best athletes in an unmissable night of athletics action right here in Melbourne on 23rd February.  READ MORE

Olympic bronze medallist Emma Coburn and indoor mile world lead Heather MacLean are locked in for the Meet.  The USA duo will take on three of our fastest ever women over 1500m, with Jessica Hull, Georgia Griffith and Abbey Caldwell all set to toe the line. READ MORE

The might of East Africa will extend their stay in Australia following the World Athletics Cross Country Championships, with the proud distance running nations of Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya strengthening the line-up of 12 countries set to compete at the Maurie Plant Meet – Melbourne.  READ MORE

  • Men: 100m*, Ambulant 100m, 200m, 800m, Mile, 3000m*, 110m Hurdles*, Long Jump, Discus, Javelin
  • Women: 100m, 200m, 1500m, 3000m, 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Javelin*, Hammer

*National Permit.  Status of all other events to be advised once fields are finalised.
